Holiday Stress: Steer clear of issues with our holiday home prep checklist

Because Being prepared is always A good Thing

The leaves are gone, there's a chill in the air, and the holidays are upon us. Whether you're a firm - no twinkles until after Thanksgiving, or already planning an eggnog-filled preview of Scrooged, a little proactive preparation can keep holiday stress at bay. Read on to learn how to solve holiday issues before they start.

Tip 1: Declutter

Everyone has clutter- it’s totally normal!

However, it's time to assess the situation if your clutter has spilled out and taken over guest rooms or common areas. Avoid hazards and mishaps by removing all unnecessary items from surfaces and clearing your hallways. If you don't have the time to sort through it all, it's ok! Just bag it up and store it somewhere out of the way for now- we won't tell! After the holidays, you can bring in one bag at a time and sort.

TIP 2: Check your Lights

Avoid accidents with a well-lit home.

If you don't want to take great-aunt Mabel to urgent care, replace burned-out light bulbs now! Get those outside lights working and illuminate your paths and entryway. Add night lights to guest spaces such as hallways, bathrooms, and bedrooms.

TIP 3: Avoid Bathroom Blunders

All the things you didn’t think about.

Get out the extra toilet paper, hand towels, and toiletries! Set everything up so that guests can find supplies easily. You should have room since your decluttered in step one. Make sure every tub has a slip-free bath mat, and add a plunger to every bathroom for bonus points. You'll thank us for this one!

Tip 4: Get out holiday decor before you need to

Discovering problems early gives you more options.

Do you dread dealing with boxes of tangled lights and disorganized décor? Do yourself a favor and handle it before the day you decorate. We've had those years, too - we get it! Consider the value of your time and toss anything that will take far more time to repair than it's worth.
