West Asheville Walnut
These Chapel Hill clients transformed their West Asheville vacation home kitchen with thoughtful design that draws inspiration from the surrounding Asheville area.
PRESERVING WHAT WORKS, PERFECTING WHAT DOESN'T
The renovation of this vacation home kitchen drew deep inspiration from Asheville's rich artistic heritage, with design selections that celebrate the local creative community while providing modern functionality for their mountain getaways.
The most significant change involved adding an entirely new wall of cabinets where none had existed before. However, the design intentionally omitted upper cabinets on this wall, creating a perfect gallery space for the clients' amazing artwork to take center stage.

A clever design solution involved mixing cabinet depths, combining the standard 21-inch bathroom vanity depth with the 24-inch kitchen base depth. This strategic approach allowed for a built-in microwave near the corner intersection while preserving valuable floor space for the dining table that sits centrally in the kitchen.
The original cabinets were replaced entirely, but the natural walnut finish was maintained to preserve the harmony with the clients' existing artwork and frames. The continuity of color ensured that their carefully curated collection would continue to complement the space perfectly.
Designer Christy's suggestion to add a custom coat closet to the right of the refrigerator proved to be a game-changer. This thoughtful addition eliminated the need for a freestanding coat rack that had previously occupied precious floor space.
The backsplash selection drew inspiration from Asheville's rich pottery tradition, featuring tiles from a pottery collection available in our showroom. Paired with black cabinet hardware that the clients selected after seeing it displayed on walnut, also in our showroom, the kitchen perfectly balances local character with personal style.
The project timeline benefited greatly from the clients' enthusiasm and decisiveness. After an initial morning consultation at their home, they followed Christy to the showroom and completed their design selections that same afternoon, a testament to clear vision and collaborative design.
This transformation was a true collaborative effort between HomeSource Builders and HomeSource Design Center, showcasing our ability to create spaces that are as functional as they are beautiful. From structural changes to custom details, every element was carefully considered to bring the clients' vision to life.
